Climate Action Program
Bicharan Kallyan Sangstha recognizes that Bangladesh is one of the countries most severely affected by the consequences of climate change, making it highly disaster-prone. The frequency and intensity of natural disasters are increasing, leading to greater destruction with each event. Rising sea levels, river erosion, salinity, and deforestation further exacerbate the situation, threatening livelihoods and ecosystems.
In response to these urgent challenges, Bicharan has launched its Climate Action Program with the aim of reducing environmental degradation and mitigating the impact of climate-related disasters. The program focuses on both immediate and long-term interventions designed to promote environmental sustainability and strengthen community resilience.
To combat pollution, Bicharan is committed to reducing the use of plastics and polythene, encouraging communities to adopt natural and eco-friendly solutions. One of the program’s key initiatives is a large-scale Tree Plantation Movement, which aims to restore ecosystems and protect vulnerable communities from the adverse effects of climate change. To date, Bicharan has planted 10,000 trees in coastal regions, providing a natural barrier against storms, floods, and soil erosion.
A crucial aspect of this initiative is community ownership. By involving local communities in the planting and maintenance of these trees, Bicharan ensures that the efforts are sustainable and that the benefits of environmental restoration are shared by those most affected. This community-driven approach fosters a sense of responsibility and helps secure long-term success in combating climate change.
Through its Climate Action Program, Bicharan has already supported 10,000 individuals, contributing to a safer, more resilient environment. The program reflects Bicharan’s strategic focus on addressing the root causes of climate vulnerability while empowering communities to take active roles in protecting and preserving their natural surroundings.
