WASH Program
In Bangladesh, despite its extensive river systems, access to clean and safe drinking water remains a critical challenge. Approximately 70 million people, or 40% of the population, lack safe water, leading to significant health risks, particularly in rural and underserved areas. To address this pressing issue, Bicharan Kallyan Sangstha has implemented its Tubewell Installation Program, providing reliable and safe water sources to vulnerable communities. This initiative underscores Bicharan’s commitment to recognizing clean water as a fundamental human right.
In addition to water access, Bangladesh faces alarming sanitation challenges, with 118 million people—69% of the population—lacking safe and sanitary toilets. This deficiency heightens health risks, especially for children, women, and the elderly, particularly in urban slums and refugee camps. Bicharan’s Washroom Installation Program aims to deliver safe, hygienic toilet facilities to underprivileged families, significantly reducing the spread of infectious diseases.
Furthermore, Bangladesh is experiencing a salinity crisis, impacting nearly 2 million people due to saltwater intrusion. In response, Bicharan has launched its Water Tank Distribution Program, targeting coastal regions most affected by salinity to promote long-term resilience.
Through these comprehensive WASH initiatives, Bicharan supports 460,700 individuals, safeguarding their health and livelihoods.
